Jonathan, Tambuwal impeachment not priority — APC Rep

An All Progressives Congress member in the House of Representatives,
Mr. Adekunle Adeyemi, has said the purpose of the majority achieved in
the House was not to impeach President Goodluck Jonathan or the
Speaker, Aminu Tambuwal.

Adeyemi representing Ifo/Ewekoro Federal Constituency of Ogun State in
the House disclosed this in a chat with newsmen during an empowerment
programme where he distributed equipment and tools to the people of
the constituency.

According to him, the House of Representatives has yet to initiate any
move towards impeaching President Jonathan or removing Tambuwal as
Speaker, as being speculated in some quarters.

Thirty seven members of the House from other political parties
recently announced their defection to the APC, resulting in the
hitherto opposition party gaining the majority of the seats in the
lower chamber of the National Assembly.
The lawmaker ruled out the removal of Tambuwal as Speaker, stressing
that the increase in the number of APC legislators in the House did
not suggest there was any plan to impeach the president or any other
political office holder.

He added that the influx of people from the other political parties
across Nigeria only reflected the fact that the APC remained the only
party to beat and a forum for all progressives who have the interest
of the socio-economic and political development of the country at
heart.

"A lot of people have joined us but I don't think the motive is to
impeach anybody. It is to make sure that we all become jolly friends
once we share the same ideas and ideals.

"You should understand that even in the emergence of Tambuwal, Action
Congress of Nigeria played significant role. But for our support, I
don't think Tambuwal would've emerged as the Speaker of the House.
Being the majority now is not going to change anything. The man is in
control of the house and so far, so good. We are happy with what he's
doing," Adeyemi said.

On the empowerment programme, Adeyemi stated it was borne out of his
decision to make life conducive for the people in his constituency.
He added that those in the position of power should always have the
interest of their people at heart, especially with the widespread
hunger and unemployment pervading the society.

Also, speaking on the occasion, the Ogun State Deputy Governor, Prince
Segun Adesegun, urged the members of the APC to remain focused and
ensure the sustenance of the pace the party was moving.
