Olamide, Davido, others win Headies Music awards

Pop artiste, Olamide, topped the winners' list of the Headies' Music
Awards held Thursday night at the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island,
Lagos.

Olamide won three awards including Best Rap Album with YBNL (Yahoo Boy
No Laptop), Best Street-Hop Artiste with 'Durosoke' and Best Collabo
with 'Ghost Mode' which featured Phyno.
NAN reports that 20 competitive and two complimentary awards were
given to star musicians at the event.

Sean Tizzle won in the highly coveted Next Rated category with his
song, 'Sho Lee', and drove away in a Hyundai Tucson SUV that was part
of the prize.

Davido won in two categories – the Hip Hop World Revelation of the
Year and Best R and B/Pop Album.

Phyno won the Best Rap Single with his 'Man of the Year', while his
duet with Olamide, 'Ghost Mode', was adjudged the Best Collabo.

Iyanya was recognised as the Artiste of the Year while Kcee won Song
of the Year Award with his single, 'Limpopo'.

Best R and B Single went to Banky W for 'Good Good Loving'; Jaywon won
Best Recording of The Year with 'This Year'. Tthe Producer of The Year
was Dee Tunes for 'Sho Lee'.

Mode 9 returned to win the Lyricist on the Roll with 'Let it Go' after
losing out to fellow rapper, Vector, last year.
Except in 2012, Mode 9 has won in that category since the inception of
the awards in 2007.

The Best Alternative Song went to BlackMagic for 'Repete', Best Pop
Single was 2Face's 'Ihe Ne Me', Best Vocal Performance Female was
'Only You' by Nikki Laoye while Praiz won the Best Vocal Performance
Male Award with 'Rich And Famous'.

Waje won Best Reggae/DanceHall Single with 'I Wish', and P-Square's
'Alingo' directed by Jude Okoye and Clarence Peters was the Best Music
Video.

The complimentary awards went to Harrysong for his song, `Mandela',
which won Most Downloaded Callertune.

The song, a tribute to late Nelson Mandela, reportedly broke all
existing Nigerian records when it was downloaded more than a million
times on the day of its release.
The Hall of Fame Award went to legendary Fuji musician, King Wasiu
Ayinde Marshal, who later closed the event with a five-star
performance.

Some of the award presenters were Mai Atafo, Stephanie Coker, Darey,
Kemi Adetiba, Chin Okeke, Seyi Law, Lynxxx, Osas Ighodalo, Mercy Omo
London, Toolz, Kelechi Amadi Obi, Funmi Iyanda, IllBliss.

The event featured musical performances by Iyanya, Waje, Olamide,
Phyno, Praiz, Seyi Shay, Niyola, Zaina, Yemi Alade.
Some of the award winners, who spoke to NAN, expressed gratitude to
the organisers.

Harrysong said: "I feel blessed, I feel privileged, I feel like a
blessing to the world, to the praise and glory of God."

Nikki Laoye said: "It is always a great honour to be recognised for what you do.

"I have been nominated before, but this is my first time of winning
The Headies and I am overjoyed."

D'Tunes said: "For a young producer, there is no better sign of
acknowledgement that to win an award of this nature. I am grateful."

NAN reports that the ceremony was hosted by pop artistes, Dr Sid and
Tiwa Savage.

The Headies was formerly known as the Hip Hop World Awards.

It is organised annually by Ayo Animashaun of the Smooth Promotions,
who also runs the Urban Music Channel HipTV.

The annual event is to honour contemporary Nigerian pop and hip hop artistes
