AbdurRahman also told the News Agency of Nigeria that there was the need to train and equip the security agencies in addition to beefing up security around the pipelines.
“The only way to restore sanity in the oil sector is for the Armed Forces to use the Army, Civil Defence Corps and others to do their job.
“When they don’t do their job, they should be punished because they are wasting tax payers’ money.
“In Nigeria, we have Police and we have Armed Forces. We even heard in recent times they have empowered the Civil Defence Corps, they have given them ammunition.
“So what are they doing, by not checkmating oil theft and pipeline vandalism?
“If it is equipment, they should buy equipment for them. If it is better training, they should be trained.
AbdurRahman urged corporate organisations to partner with security agencies in sensitising the populace on the need to protect the country’s oil pipelines.
